Dialogue

2021

Dialogue is an experimental art project where we explore the creative potential of computational communication. We set a simulation with two interacting cellular automata systems driven by neural networks to explore visual spaces their dialogue will lead them. The simulation was presented in real time on two pillar displays at the lighting and media art festival Glow in Shenzhen, China, at the end of 2020.

In the artwork, we used artificial neural networks to recreate a dialogue between the two objects that realize they are a black and a white pillar.

The goal is to teach the black pillar to grasp the white color and render it while the white pillar embodies the black color. Both neural networks create a common third one, which symbolizes an artificial world for them to live in—an interplay of Yang and Yin.
